The service was courteous and prompt. I do think they need to advertise to make themselves more visible since they are not on the main thoroughfare. Overall, I would give my experience 3.5 to 4 stars.

On the advice of two friends, I wandered one day into Hsin Hsin, in Boston's Back Bay, a restaurant that politeness prevents me from describing as anything other than “modest.” I stopped by a couple of years ago to have the not-at-all-bad scallion pancakes and a pile of sloppy-Joe-ish chicken served over a delicate and fluffy rice plate hand made by the proprietors, but I rarely thought of it again.

I am a foodie and an aspiring chef. I have been eating at Hsin Hsin cafe since 2009, pretty much at-least twice a month, if not more. It is by far my fav place in Backbay for its consistency in taste, genuine courteousness of the chef and hostess, freshness of ingredients, cleanliness and a zen minimalist ambiance. And the price ! A bowl of soup, entree and their steaming pot of tea for $9 !!! It's a place to pick up your soul in winter, open your heart in spring, rejoice in summer and fall. Try their Schezuan Tofu..........I have always walked away restored !!

What a rip off! I will never Ofer from this place again. I called and told them I wanted chicken and broccoli with pork fried rice AND boneless spare ribs with pork fried rice no veggies. When they brought my order, they put 5 pieces of boneless spare ribs, pork fried rice and chicken and broccoli all in one container. And they charged me $15. I called them and told them that I ordered 2 combination platters not one all together. After going back and forth with the lady for about 5 mins explaining that I placed 2 orders, she advised me that they have had the menu for a long time and that I told her I wanted them together. I will be sure I NEVER order from them again.

Hsin Hsin is my sole favorite restaurant to date, which is an understatement, as it is as much of a dining establishment as it is an experience and adventure. Although a few extra rays of sunshine may have shone down on favored tables, I never saw anybody left out in the cold, not even a sweet and out-of-place young couple dressed as if for church. But if the dining room staff now treats newcomers like long-lost friends, it is doing so at a time when there are very few reasons for anyone who isn’t already a regular to visit. The memories my friends and I have had at Hsin Hsin over the years are unparalleled and nothing short of pristine Godliness. My friends and I now call eachother "Scal Pals" as reference to your savory scallion pancakes (a must order on the menu). Thank you Hsin Hsin for everything you have contributed to my life, health, and happiness.
